I could tell you how I started as a banker in post Communist Russia. Or I could start by wowing you with how I commuted from Beijing to Philadelphia to get my Masters (Positive Psychology). But we are all on a journey and here are the points I want you to know:
Performance and personal needs are symbiotic and are constantly breaking down (as opposed to the mythical "work/life" balance.
Increasing employee engagement did not necessarily increase performance – and increasing performance did not always bring engagement.
I wanted to know if it was possible to be happy at work, if one wasn't performing well (and vice-versa). Here was the problem I discovered:
We were trying to engage people AT work, but there was nothing that expressed how engaged they were IN their work.
How would we even measure that? There are SO MANY assessments out there (I am certified in over 30 of them and still something was missing...
There was no way to assess how people perform, only ways to measure traits that make up one's personality. (See the difference?)
